My Story

10 years ago, in April 2012, Wayne & I went through the most traumatic and saddest time of our lives. Very sadly we lost our first precious baby daughter at 23 weeks. It was absolutely heartbreaking and we will never forget giving birth to & meeting our beautiful girl, but then walking out of the hospital empty handed. The grief was immense.

Thankfully we were surrounded by wonderful friends, family & the DCCC community, who helped us through. We were also blown away by the brilliant support from Sands Derby - a charity, part of Sands UK, offering emotional support & help to parents who have lost a baby during pregnancy, at birth or soon afterwards. We received a very special 'Memory Box' from Sands and it's filled with sentimental items from our ordeal, and it's lovely to go through the box and reflect on our short time with our beloved baby. These boxes really do help with the grieving process.

On 21 May 2022, I will be taking part in the Sands Snowdon Sunrise Challenge and I really hope to raise as much money as possible for Sands Derby. It's the first time Wayne & I are sharing our story on social media, and to mark the 10 year anniversary since losing our girl, we felt the need to turn our tragedy into a positive and create awareness of baby loss and highlight the amazing work that Sands do. Everybody knows someone who has miscarried & lost a baby, and it's so important to keep these charities going. Please donate whatever you can, even £5 can make a huge difference.

I'm looking forward to the challenge and thank you in advance for your support!
